Minor in Social Welfare

Anyone, regardless of declared major, who is interested in bettering the social welfare of others can minor in Social Welfare.

This minor is designed for people who are interested in the Social Welfare System and the role of Social Workers; it does NOT prepare a student for professional practice as a Social Worker and does NOT make one eligible to be licensed as a social worker.

Course Requirements for the minor include:

SWK 410: Social Welfare Policy Practice

SOC 131: Introductory Sociology
SOC 313: Social Deviance
SOC 340: Juvenile Delinquency
SOC 353: Sociology of Health and Illness
SOC 365: Social Change in Appalachia
SOC 375: Criminology
ECO 130: Contemporary Economic Problems
ECO 231: Principles of Macroeconomics
CRJ/WGS 305: Domestic Violence
