Membership Application

In 2013, social work students organized themselves and started the Tau Xi Chapter of Phi Alpha. Phi Alpha is a professional honor socieity that promotes a closer bond among social work students as they work to seek humanitarian goals and ideals which include the value of lifelone learning. We invite into membership those who have excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.

An undergraduate student is eligible for nomination after achieving the following national Phi Alpha Tau Xi Chapter requirements:

  • Declared social work major
  • Completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses
  • Achieved sophomore status (not eligible to apply senior year)
  • Ranked in the top 35% of their class
  • Leadership in service to humanity

A graduate student is eligible for nomination after achieving the following national Phi Alpha Tau Xi Chapter requirements:

  • Accepted in the MSW program
  • Must have completed 30 semester hours of required social work courses; Advanced Standing students must have completed 22 hours.
  • Ranked in the top 35% of their class
  • Leadership in service to humanity

To be eligible, students are nominated by social work faculty and Phi Alpha Tau Xi Chapter members. New members are asked to pay national Phi Alpha dues ($30.00/once) and Tau Xi Chapter dues ($30.00/annual or $15.00/semester). If a MSW student was an active BSW Phi Alpha member, that student only pays Tau Xi Chapter dues. Scholarships available. You will be asked to pay dues in our online store.
